Barnato Grove House in Melbourne Nathan Burkett Design

NBD in collaboration with Builder DDB sought to create a sleek and contemporary outdoor space befitting to this modern Armadale home.   The intent behind the design, a melodious balance between hard, soft and fluid elements, was achieved by a careful and proportioned composition of water, stone, timber and flora.

The lap pool, surrounded by bluestone, provides a calming reflective display on the white house exterior.  Consistent with the clean lines surrounding this area, an elongated, hand cut travertine, floating seat was designed with both style and functionality in mind.  This is offset by a warm timber screen incorporating a subtle steel water feature and picture window, to add depth and interest to the space.  The series of Ficus hillii trees provide a soft, colorful backdrop to the hard and more muted tones of the stone.

Despite the irregular shape of the block, this intuitive design accommodates all the essentials while emphasising a sense of space and personality.
